Boingo Wireless, a DAS and Wi-Fi provider, announced that the company has been chosen as the exclusive cellular network provider for the new Pinnacle Bank Arena.
According to a release, Boingo will design, deploy and manage a neutral-host, multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System (DAS) providing mobile voice and data coverage throughout the 15,300-seat arena. The Boingo DAS network will launch timed to the opening of the new arena in September 2013.
Pinnacle Bank Arena, the new home of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s and women’s basketball teams, is slated to host more than 120 major concerts, entertainment and community events annually. Key coverage areas include the Founders & Executive Suites, loge boxes, private suites, and main arena bowl, as well as the open-air roof deck overlooking downtown Lincoln’s historic West Haymarket district.
“Boingo‘s success in operating neutral host DAS at SMG’s Soldier Field made them an ideal fit with our vision for the modern, technologically advanced Pinnacle Bank Arena,” said Tom Lorenz, general manager for the Pinnacle Bank Arena/SMG. “This arena will be a centerpiece of the community’s sports and entertainment activity, and Boingo brings significant experience in optimizing cellular access for a full house. Season tickets for Huskers’ men’s basketball have already sold out, and our docket of concerts is selling out well into fall 2013.”
“The University of Nebraska, the City of Lincoln, and SMG understand that today’s insatiable demand for mobile data makes DAS a necessity in state-of-the-art venues like Pinnacle Bank Arena,” said Doug Lodder, vice president of business development for Boingo Wireless. “Our neutral host DAS approach makes the network accessible to all carriers, providing a better mobile experience for everyone who visits the arena.”
The multi-layered DAS system will be configured to provide optimal cellular coverage, capacity and data speeds throughout the arena, the company said, allowing fans to share every slam dunk and view every replay on their favorite mobile devices. Boingo‘s neutral host approach to DAS networks will maximize accessibility for all wireless providers, and allow carriers to deliver a high-performance experience to their customers while managing network capacity. Boingo was chosen as exclusive neutral host DAS provider by the West Haymarket Joint Public Agency (JPA), a governmental agency formed by the City of Lincoln and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
